The Games That Might Get Buried When GTA 6 Arrives

The gaming industry is bracing for a seismic shift. When Grand Theft Auto 6 finally launches, it will likely dominate headlines, storefronts, and player attention for months. That is a problem for every other game releasing in the same window. Some titles are strong enough to stand on their own, but several promising releases could get completely overlooked.

Take the next Assassin's Creed game, for example. Ubisoft has been working on a major shift for the series, moving to a more action-focused style with a new setting. But if it lands anywhere near GTA 6, many players will simply put it on the back burner. The same goes for the next big Bethesda RPG. Even with a dedicated fanbase, it is hard to compete with the sheer cultural weight of a new Grand Theft Auto.

Indie and mid-tier games face an even tougher battle. A creative new horror game or a stylish action title might get strong reviews, but discoverability will be brutal. Steam and console storefronts will be flooded with GTA 6 coverage, streamers will play nothing else, and social media will be a constant feed of clips from Vice City. Smaller studios might be wise to delay their launches by several months.

Even major franchises like Call of Duty or a new Elder Scrolls could feel the pressure. Rockstar's game is not just a product. It is an event. For a year or more, it will be the default answer to "what are you playing?" That leaves a lot of excellent games fighting for scraps of attention. Some will survive on word of mouth. Others will simply be forgotten, not because they are bad, but because they had the bad luck to arrive at the wrong time.
