If you finished Firewatch and found yourself staring at the screen, wishing you could stay in that Wyoming wilderness just a little longer, you are not alone. That game nailed a very specific feeling: isolation, a slow-burning mystery, and a story told almost entirely through dialogue. Finding something that hits the same notes is tricky, but these five games come close.
First up is "Gone Home." It trades the forest for an empty house in the 1990s. You explore rooms, read notes, and piece together what happened to a family. The story unfolds at your own pace, and the quiet tension is very similar to Firewatch. It is a short experience, but it stays with you.
Another strong pick is "What Remains of Edith Finch." This one is a collection of short stories about a cursed family. Each death is a unique, playable vignette. It is more surreal and darker than Firewatch, but the focus on narrative and atmosphere is just as strong. You never know what is coming next.
For something with a bit more action, try "The Long Dark." This is a survival game, so you will be managing cold, hunger, and wildlife. But the lonely, beautiful Canadian wilderness feels like a direct cousin to Firewatch's setting. The story mode has a quiet desperation that will appeal to you if you liked the sense of being alone in a vast place.
If you want a mystery with a supernatural twist, "Oxenfree" is a great choice. You play as a teenager on an abandoned island with friends. The dialogue system is fast and natural, and the radio mechanic is a clever way to interact with the world. The eerie, unsettling vibe builds slowly, just like the best parts of Firewatch.
Finally, consider "Kona." Set in 1970s northern Canada, you are a detective investigating a series of strange events. A blizzard traps you, and you have to manage your warmth and resources while uncovering what happened. It has that same sense of dread and curiosity, with a heavy dose of atmosphere. Each of these games offers a different flavor, but they all share that core feeling of being alone with a story that is just waiting to be uncovered.
