The State of Games: June 2026

The State of Games: June 2026

June 2026 turned out to be a much slower month for new releases compared to the packed schedule of May. Still, a few standout titles managed to make noise, including the best-selling game of the year so far. The month also saw a major sporting event shake up the sales charts in a significant way.

Summer Game Fest dominated the news cycle, and that translated directly into the trailer and article charts, where a wide variety of upcoming games grabbed attention. But the bigger story was in hardware. With the Nintendo Switch 2 having launched this time last year, the year-over-year comparison finally caught up with the market. The growth we had been tracking in console sales has now officially ended, as the numbers settled back to more normal levels.

Even with the slowdown, June had its bright spots. The sporting event gave a solid boost to related titles, and the quieter release window meant that older games held their positions better than usual. It was a month of contrasts, with big promotional moments on one side and a cooling hardware market on the other. We break down all the key charts and statistics below, including some exclusive data points that paint a clearer picture of where the industry stands heading into the second half of the year.
