Strauss Zelnick, the chief executive of Take-Two Interactive, has expressed strong frustration over the prolonged development of the next entry in the beloved BioShock series. In a recent interview, Zelnick stated that he is "deeply disappointed" by how long the project has taken, admitting that the company "wasted a lot of time and money" getting the game to its current state.
The new BioShock has been in development for years under the studio Cloud Chamber, which was established specifically for the project. Zelnick reflected on the process, noting that the team initially struggled to find the right creative direction. "In retrospect, we wasted a lot of time and money," he said. "We had to restart, we had to rethink what the game was going to be."
Despite the costly setbacks, Zelnick indicated that the project is now on a much stronger footing. He said he is "feeling a lot better" about the current vision and the progress being made. The executive emphasized that the goal is to deliver a title worthy of the BioShock legacy, which includes the critically acclaimed original game and its sequel, as well as the more divisive BioShock Infinite.
Take-Two has not announced a release window for the new BioShock, and Zelnick's comments suggest that fans should not expect it anytime soon. The company appears willing to absorb the previous losses in time and money to ensure the final product meets high standards. For now, the project remains one of the most anticipated but mysterious titles in the publisher's lineup.
