The cult survival horror video game "Tormented Souls" is making the jump to the screen. ZQ Entertainment, Prime Universe, and Longevity Pictures have come together to secure the film and television rights to the property. The deal signals a growing interest in adapting atmospheric, old-school horror games for a wider audience.

Originally released in 2021, "Tormented Souls" was developed by Dual Effect and Abstract Digital Works. The game is a direct homage to the fixed-camera, puzzle-heavy survival horror classics of the 1990s, drawing clear inspiration from titles like "Resident Evil" and "Silent Hill." Players follow Caroline Walker, a woman who wakes up in a dilapidated mansion after a near-drowning. She must explore the eerie Winterlake estate, solve cryptic puzzles, and fight grotesque monsters to uncover the truth about twin girls who vanished years ago.

The adaptation is still in its early stages. Producers are currently looking for a writer to shape the script. The goal is to capture the game's tense atmosphere and its slow-burn dread rather than just its jump scares. The story's focus on a single protagonist trapped in a sprawling, decaying location offers a strong foundation for a contained horror film.
