Xbox Games Showcase: Here’s everything announced during Xbox’s big show

Microsoft pulled out all the stops for its annual summer showcase, delivering a barrage of trailers, gameplay reveals, and release dates that spanned the next two years. The event, which ran for roughly two hours, was heavy on established franchises but also carved out space for new intellectual property.

The biggest surprise of the night came from the "Gears of War" camp. The Coalition revealed "Gears of War: E-Day," a prequel set 14 years before the original trilogy. The cinematic trailer showed a young Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago facing the first Locust emergence. No release date was given, but the Unreal Engine 5 footage looked gritty and visceral.

"Halo" fans got a look at the next season of "Halo Infinite," titled "Operation: Fleetcom." It introduces a new game mode focused on space combat and a fresh battle pass. More importantly, 343 Industries confirmed that a new mainline Halo game is in early development, though details remain scarce.

Playground Games showed a lengthy gameplay segment for "Fable." The reboot retains the series' trademark British humor and whimsy. Players will explore a vibrant, fairy-tale world, wield magic, and engage in melee combat. The trailer ended with a 2025 release window, a relief for fans who have waited years for a proper update.

Other highlights included a new "Doom" game, "Doom: The Dark Ages," which takes the series into a medieval-inspired setting. "Perfect Dark" finally resurfaced with a first-person gameplay trailer, showing off gadgets and stealth mechanics. "Call of Duty: Black Ops 6" also made an appearance, confirming its October launch date and a campaign set in the early 1990s.

Indie titles like "South of Midnight" and "State of Decay 3" rounded out the show, promising deep storytelling and survival mechanics. While some fans wished for more surprises, the showcase delivered a clear message: Xbox is betting big on its legacy franchises to carry the next generation.
