After days of back and forth with the community, the team behind Rideshare Simulator has officially updated their Steam store page to disclose the use of generative AI in the game's development. The move comes after players and Steam moderators alike raised questions about the game's art and writing, leading to a heated debate across forums and social media.
The controversy first kicked off when sharp-eyed users noticed inconsistencies in some of the game's promotional images and in-game text. What followed was a messy chain of denials, vague statements, and then partial admissions that only made things worse. At one point, the developers claimed the AI was only used for "minor placeholder assets," but that explanation did not hold up under scrutiny from the community.
Now, the official Steam page includes a clear disclosure that AI tools were used to assist with certain visual assets and narrative elements. The developers also posted a short note apologizing for the confusion, saying they initially thought the disclosure was optional and that they were not trying to hide anything. They added that going forward, all AI-assisted content will be clearly marked, and they are working on replacing some of the more controversial assets with hand-made ones.
The whole situation highlights a growing tension in the gaming world. Players are becoming more vocal about wanting transparency, while smaller studios often see AI as a practical way to cut costs and speed up production. Whether this apology will be enough to win back trust remains to be seen, but at least the page now tells the truth. For now, the game remains available on Steam, and the developers say they are focused on moving past the drama and getting back to improving the game itself.
