**My Halloween Game Nightmare Proved I'm Horror Movie Fodder**

The iconic "Halloween" franchise has always delivered one brutal lesson: running and hiding is a temporary, often fatal, delay of the inevitable. Yet, when I recently stepped into the shoes of a terrified resident of Haddonfield in a video game adaptation, my every instinct screamed to do just that. The experience was a humbling, pixelated revelation that I would be among the first to fall in a real horror film.

Crouched in a virtual closet, holding my breath as Michael Myers’ heavy footsteps thudded past, I felt a surge of foolish pride. I was safe! This was the plan! But the game, much like the films, punishes passivity. The environment offered no lasting sanctuary. My hiding spot became a trap, my quiet panic a beacon. The true objective wasn't evasion, but a desperate scramble for tools to fight back or create permanent escapes—strategies my fear-clogged brain refused to prioritize.

It exposed a chilling gap between intellectual understanding and visceral reaction. I know the rules: never split up, always go for the kill, never assume the threat is gone. But faced with that relentless, silent shape, logic evaporated. The game held up a mirror, and the reflection was of a character making all the wrong choices, frozen in fear, and wholly unprepared for the monstrous reality of the situation. It was less a game and more an interactive autopsy of my own survival instincts, confirming I’d never make it to the final act.
