After months of speculation and persistent leaks, Nintendo has officially confirmed that a full remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is coming to the Switch 2. The announcement, made during a recent investor briefing, confirms that the project is real and will launch later this year as part of the franchise's 40th anniversary celebrations.
The remake is being handled by a dedicated internal team at Nintendo, with support from Grezzo, the studio behind the excellent 3DS remakes of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Early previews suggest a ground-up rebuild using a new engine, featuring fully reworked textures, modern lighting effects, and smoother frame rates. The original N64 version's iconic puzzles and dungeon designs remain intact, but the controls have been updated to take advantage of the Switch 2's new hardware capabilities.
Nintendo has not yet announced a specific release date, but industry insiders expect the game to drop during the holiday season. Pricing and pre-order details are expected to follow in the coming weeks. For longtime fans who have waited decades for a proper console remake, this is the anniversary gift that finally delivers.
