A new comprehensive tutorial series aims to help game developers tackle one of the most challenging aspects of 3D world building: creating sprawling, believable urban environments. FastTrackTutorials has released an 18-hour course designed to take artists from the basics all the way through to a production-ready city scene.
The course breaks down the entire workflow, starting with modular asset creation and blockout techniques. It then moves into advanced texturing, lighting, and optimization strategies specifically tailored for large-scale environments. Rather than focusing on a single engine, the lessons cover universal principles that apply across Unreal Engine, Unity, and other major platforms.
A key focus of the training is efficiency. Building a city by hand is impractical, so the course teaches methods for using procedural tools and smart reuse of assets without making the world look repetitive. Students will learn how to set up a master material system, create unique hero buildings, and populate streets with believable clutter and signage.
The instructor emphasizes a production mindset throughout, showing how to manage file sizes, draw calls, and memory usage while still achieving high visual fidelity. By the end of the course, participants should have a complete city block or district they can use in their own projects or portfolio.
The full course is available now through the FastTrackTutorials website.
